The Armidale Visitor Information Centre (VIC) was one of many organisations that could not run without volunteer help, Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay said today.
He met with five VIC volunteers who attended a ceremony at the Armidale Dumaresq Council Chambers to mark National Volunteer Week.
In all 138 volunteers from 17 local organisations were awarded certificates for their contribution over many years including 15 from the VIC.
Mr Torbay said that between them VIC group had contributed more than 150 years of service, with one volunteer Peter Garlick recognised for 20 years volunteer work.
“Our communities could not operate the way they do without the outstanding contributions of so many people who give their time and energy to support so many services and groups,” he said.
“One thing common to them all is their enthusiasm, involvement and dedication. They are real exemplars of what a strong community is all about.”
