$80,000 for Northern Tablelands playgrounds
Friday 26th June 2009
Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay has welcomed $80,000 in additional funding to revamp Council-maintained children’s play areas in Inverell, Walcha, Emmaville and Guyra.
The funding will be used to upgrade existing playgrounds and each project has been allocated $20,000.
Mr Torbay said this funding is an important boost in creating safe and attractive areas where children can enjoy being active outdoors.
“Playgrounds in our communities are an important place where young children can be active and enjoy outdoors fun,” Mr Torbay said. “It is important that these Council-maintained areas be made as fun, interesting and as safe as possible, this funding will help those Councils achieve this.
“The funding is from the second round of the NSW Government’s Local Government Playground Grants Program with 45 Councils across NSW receiving assistance.”
The projects to be undertaken include –
· Glen Innes Severn Council – Playground upgrade at the Courthouse, Emmaville
· Guyra Shire Council – Fencing and shade provision for the playground on the New England Highway, Guyra
· Inverell Shire Council – Playground upgrade at Campbell Park, Inverell
· Walcha Council – Replace soft fall and shade provision at McHatten Park, Walcha.
