Tablelands grants to convert $417,000 to $1.2 million

Thirteen projects in the Armidale Dumaresq, Glen Innes Severn, Guyra, Gwydir, Tenterfield, Uralla and Walcha council regions will share a grant of $417,000 through the State Government’s Community Building Partnership scheme.
The projects were chosen from 55 submissions put to the state government as part of an economic stimulus package announced in the State Budget.
Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay and commended the high quality of the submissions from Councils and community groups across the local area.
“This funding will triple its value to a total of $1.2 million through additional cash and in kind support from recipients,” he said.
“Many worthwhile projects were submitted. I congratulate the successful applicants and look forward to the completion of their projects over the next 12 months.
“Our share is being bolstered by councils and community groups and will equate to a value of $1.2 million,” he said.
Projects by Local Government Area include
Armidale Dumaresq
· $18,000 for Tablelands Community Employment and Training to assist with the $91,000 upgrade of the Iron Man Welders Workshop on Waterfall Way.
· $16,500 for the Drummond Park Pre-School to assist with the $67,161 project to build a new classroom and improved disable access and facilities.
Glen Innes Severn
· $50,000 for the Glen Innes Severn Council towards the $120,000 upgrade of The Children’s Services including renovations to the kitchen, bathroom and laundry.
· $5,000 to the Glen Innes and District Historical Society to assist with its $12,998 renovation of facilities including establishing a room for costume displays at History House.
· $30,000 for the Glen Innes Showground Trust towards its $61,000 project to upgrade the grandstands at the Showground and provide disabled access.
Guyra
· $63,000 to Guyra Shire Council for stage one of the $244,431 upgrade of the Guyra Sporting Club including a new club house, improved field lighting and spectator amenities.
Gwydir
· $20,000 to Gwydir Shire Council for its $60,000 Bingara Riverscape Project – beautifying and landscaping the area adjacent to the Gwydir River with walkways and picnic furniture.
· $24,500 for the North Star Sporting Club’s $49,920 project to upgrade the ring enclosure and replace the existing timber fence.
Inverell
· $20,000 to the Ashford Showground Trust’s $60,000 project to replace a transformer and upgrade electrical wiring.
· $50,000 towards the New England Conservatorium of Music’s project to establish music studios and a workshop/performance space in Inverell.
Tenterfield
· $10,000 to the Tenterfield Preschool Kindergarten towards it $24,824 project to refurbish its kitchen and craft preparation area.
Uralla
· $50,000 to the Uralla Shire Council towards its $120,000 project to add to its landfill and recycling centre to incorporate a recycling facility for Computerbank New England, development of an opportunity shop and undercover drop off area.
Walcha
· $60,000 to Walcha Shire Council towards its $120,000 project to upgrade footpaths and street furniture in the commercial area of town.
