Guyra Sporting Complex - L to R: Mayor Hans Hietbrink, Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay, Deputy Mayor Shane Davidson, and General Manager David Cushway inspect the plans on site.
Stage One of an ambitious plan to build a new sporting complex at Lions Park in Guyra can now move ahead with the help of a $63,000 grant through the State Community Building Partnership scheme.
Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay welcomed today’s announcement of $417,000 for 13 projects in the electorate which with support funding from local councils and organisations will equate to a total of $1.2 million in infrastructure upgrades.
“This will make a significant difference and allow projects like the Guyra Sporting Complex to progress for the benefit of the community and the local workers and businesses involved in construction work,” he said.
“With Council also providing a substantial financial contribution the stimulus funding will achieve a great outcome for the Guyra community.”
Guyra Mayor Hans Hietbrink said Council had been planning for some time to integrate the old playing fields around Lions Park into a good quality facility.
To be used for Rugby Union, League and soccer, the Complex will have a club house, new lighting for training, new seating and improved car parking in addition to the upgraded playing fields.
The project brings together eight local sporting groups who will share the new facility.
“This funding allows Council to make a significant investment in local infrastructure,” Cr Hietbrink said. “We appreciate the assistance of the State Government to make it possible.”
