The Glen Innes Showground Trust , Gumtree Glen Childrens Centre and the Glen Innes Showground Trust will share $85,000 in grants through the State Community Building Partnership scheme announced today.
Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay congratulated the three organisations which are all also contributing substantial funds towards their infrastructure upgrades.
“They all put forward strong submissions and the projects will create substantial benefits for the community, generating business, work for trades people and essential improvements to infrastructure,” he said.
The grants for Glen Innes Severn include
· $50,000 for the Glen Innes Severn Council towards the $120,000 upgrade of Gumtree Glen Children’s Centre including renovations to the kitchen, bathroom and laundry.
· $5,000 to the Glen Innes and District Historical Society to assist with its $12,998 renovation of facilities including establishing a room for costume displays at History House.
· $30,000 for the Glen Innes Showground Trust towards its $61,000 project to upgrade the grandstands at the Showground and provide disabled access.
Council Corporate and Community Services Director Lotta Jackson said the Gumtree Glen upgrade would benefit all users of the Centre including the long day care service and out of school hours care service, the aboriginal supported playgroup, the young mothers supported playgroup, the outreach supported playgroup office, the aboriginal women’s art project, the disability support group, the Glen Innes Toy Library, Early Intervention program and early intervention outreach office.
The funding will assist the Glen Innes Showground Trust to upgrade its 100 year old grandstand by replacing the leaking roof, rotting roofing timbers, replacing leaking guttering and repainting in heritage colours, improving lighting, updating safety and improving access. It will also upgrade disabled grandstand access by installing safety barriers, replacing the roof, improving seating, updating safety features and improving access.
At History House the funding will help to replace the concrete path to the building, rewire a section of the building and install new flooring and special locally made cupboards for its costume display.
