Uralla's ComputerBank volunteers can move ahead to expand their operations through a $6,600 grant from the State Government, Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay announced today.

The funding will enable the group to install 30 sets of double power points with internet connections at their Hill Street workshop.

"President Barry Sinclair and his committee raised the issue with me when I opened the workshop earlier this year," Mr Torbay said.

"I made direct representations to the Premier who is very impressed with the operation and was pleased to allocate this funding.

"ComputerBank New England makes a very valuable contribution to the community through repairing and reconditioning old computers to donate to people in need, particularly school students and older people.

"This funding will help them with this work and make a big difference for the volunteers to have these added resources."

Mr Torbay said the funding would enable the group to recondition a greater number of donated computers to meet an increased community need.

"ComputerBank New England Inc. is a wonderful example of what can be achieved through the dedication and persistence of a group of volunteers," he said.

"In the five years the group has been operating, is has reconditioned and distributed about 600 computers that would otherwise have become landfill. The funding boost is well deserved."
