It is around 25 years since an old girl guides hall was relocated to the Gilgai tennis club site and soon it will get its first coat of paint since that time.a
Club Secretary Greg Fleming and Treasurer Christel Walker received a $1000 state government cheque towards the project from Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay during his visit to Inverell last week.
“The club is an important sporting facility in Gilgai with more than 30 members and an active competition program,” the MP said.
“There are always a lot of maintenance and administration expenses for a small club to meet and this funding is a welcome boost to help with external and internal painting.”
Mr Fleming said the funding was “a big help”.
“It represents a lot of chook raffles we now don’t have to have,” he said.
“We appreciate what Richard has done to help us.
“We just wouldn’t have a successful club without our clubhouse.”
Club volunteers are ready to begin work on the painting and expect the new look club house to be ready for the competitions when they start up again in the warmer weather.
