$37,330 for upgrades to Uralla & Warialda Rail bus stops

Tuesday 10th January 2012
A regional grants program aimed at encouraging the use of public transport in regional areas has delivered a $37,330 boost to Uralla and Gwydir Shire Councils Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay announced today.
Mr Torbay said the Country Passenger Transport Infrastructure Grants Scheme provides support to improve transport infrastructure for customers outside major cities.
"This funding is welcome and with high fuel prices access to public transport is vital to regional communities," Mr Torbay said. "Two projects will be funded in this round - $31,330 for 19 bus stop poles and seating in Uralla as well as $6,000 to install lighting at the Warialda Rail CountryLink bus stop.
"Uralla Shire Council's plan will see bus stop poles located throughout residential areas to encourage Uralla residents to use public transport to Armidale.
"New lighting at the CountryLink bus stop in Warialda Rail will be solar powered, making the area safer particularly during winter months when the service often operates after sunset.
“I commend both Councils for their commitment to improve public transport infrastructure for local passengers as these improvements will provide benefits for years to come."
