$1.04 million grant for Northern Inland Weeds Advisory

Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay said all eight Local Government Areas in the electorate will benefit from recently announced funding through the Weeds Action Grants Program.
Mr Torbay said the Northern Inland Weeds Advisory Committee (NIWAC) secured funding of $1,047,515 to support the Weed Action Program across the region.
"Weed control is a vital tool in land management and I was pleased to learn that the work of this committee is being supported with funding," Mr Torbay said. "The NIWAC Weeds Action Plan 2010-2015 helps to deliver a coordinated response to weed incursions and methods to quickly identify weeds that place our environment at risk.
"I commend the work of NIWAC and the chairperson, Cr Maria Woods, for the ongoing commitment to weeds war."
The funding will support initiatives of the Weeds Action Plan through local authorities including the New England Weeds Authority (includes Armidale Dumaresq Council, Guyra Shire Council, Uralla Shire Council and Walcha Council), Glen Innes Severn Council, Gwydir Shire Council, Inverell Shire Council and Tenterfield Shire Council.
